LIEUTENANT COMMANDER MASON DECOMMISSIONED THE U.S.S. LOWRY DD-770 ON 29 OCTOBER 1973>
THE USS LOWRY WAS ASSIGNED TO THE RESERVE FLEET AND STATIONED AT THE PHILADELPHIA NAVAL BASE IN 1970. THE USS LOWRY BECAME THE FLAGSHIP OF THE DESTROYER SQUADRON AT PHILADELPHIA NAVAL BASE. USS LOWRY DD-770 WAS DECOMISSIONED AND STRICKEN ON 29 OCTOBER 1973. LOWRY WAS SOLD TO THE BRAZILIAN NAVY ON 29 OCTOBER 1973 AND RENAMED "ESPIRITO SANTO D-38". SHE WAS PLACED IN INACTIVE SERVICE BY THE BRAZILIAN NAVY ON 6 FEBRUARY 1996. LOWRY HAD ACCOMPLISHED 245 TRIPS, 1,249 DAYS AT SEA AND STEAMED 305,010 MILES. LOWRY WAS SUNK AS A TARGET DURING THE SUMMER OF 1999.
